Lt. Heinz Escherhaus, 1./JG 77, prison escape in England
Hello everyone,
Lt. Heinz Escherhaus from 1./JG 77 was POW 9 October, 1940 during a Jabo escort over London, when his rubber dingy accidentally inflated in the cockpit, and he was forced to make an emergency landing near Vensons Farm, Eastry, Kent. He was not injured. He apparently managed to escape, since a Wanted Poster of him was posted in England on 27 June, 1941. A copy of the Wanted Poster was seen on the Internet. Does anyone have information on whether he was caught or whether he finally escaped and survived somewhere? Thank you very much, have a nice day. |

A number of German aircrew captured in 1940 made escape attempts before they were shipped to Canada in January 1941 but none were successful
