John Beeching, Mosquito pilot
from Facebook: Anchor of History
·
With deep respect, we remember John Beeching, a World War II RAF Bomber Command veteran, who has passed away at the remarkable age of 101. 🕊️🇬🇧
Growing up in London’s East End, he endured the horrors of the Blitz — an experience that inspired him to volunteer for the Royal Air Force while still a teenager.
Trained in Canada, John became a qualified pilot in 1943 and later flew the legendary De Havilland Mosquito, the “Wooden Wonder,” during the final stages of the war. In early 1945, he carried out dangerous night intruder missions over Europe, facing enemy fighters in the darkness.
For the past 55 years, he called Nelson home.
Now his journey has come to an end.
His courage, service, and legacy will not be forgotten.
Rest in peace, John Beeching. ❤️
