Mont Mouchet Luftwaffe Units

Does anyone know which Luftwaffe Units operated against the French Resistance in the Mont Mouchet area during the May-June 1944 period?

It was Geschwader Bongart (formed in June from Stab, III. and IV./Fliegerzielgeschwader 2), see here for more: https://www.ghostbombers.com/Bongart/jun_01.html

Hello James, just curious about the time period you are using. AFAIK Mont Mouchet was used as a maquis concentration point only after the D-Day, when many people joined the existing armed groups existing in the area, but that were mainly hiding before the Allied landings. German air raids on liberated areas mainly occured in June and July and were rather rare before that.

If you can read French, there’s quite a bit online about the ground fighting: search “Maquis de Mont Mouchet”.

Some French online sources about the battle:

It’s years since I used them so I guess they must have gone extinct. Try this instead: https://museedelaresistanceenligne.org/search.php?search=mouchet

When a site is gone, you can try https://web.archive.org/

For the three sites given by Nick:
https://web.archive.org/web/20130629...t.com/combats/

2nd link not archived, but there is a chronology at https://www.musee-resistance-zone13....ements-zone13/ showing that the concentration of the maquis at Mont Mouchet started in mid-May 1944, but the area covered by the chronology is not including the Mont Mouchet itself.

3rd link not archived

I have tested several French sites about Mont Mouchet, but none so far reports air attacks.
