Going through the KU reports i saw this. A while back there was a thread on it but i can not find it. Victim was B-17 42-39981 Rugged But Right (452nd BG, 728th BS) lost Apr 29, 1944. MACR 4450, enemy aircraft, crashed near Burg Afd, near Pietzpul, 15 miles N of Magdeburg, Gr. All crew POW.

Hello Snautzer,

in the survey for 29 Apr 1944 in Jagdfliegerverbände Vol. 13/I the B-17 loss near Burg was claimed by the Erla-Werke. According to footnote 1107 on page 400 the "Bf 109 G-Einflieger Gottfried Fay" was a civilian employee of the Erla-Werke. He was no more a member of the Jagdstaffel Erla, which was disbanded on 10 March 1944.

This is a tweaked screenshot of Fay's claim found online in the Bundesarchiv file RL 5/1449 page 298. I am unable to make out his unit.

That's how I read it, too.

Not via OCR though. I opened it in Affinity Photo and duplicated the original layer several times with the blend mode set to 'multiply' (a good way to get something out of a faint image but I can't remember where I first read about it).
