Heinkel HD 42 aka He 42
Hi All
I recently bought Christian König's book Ostseeflieger, which is about two Heinkel types, the HD 24 and HD 42 (aka He 42) On page 189 he introduces, what is new to me, the He 42 B-01 to B-010. No WNr are given, but all ten are identified by their "civil" D-Ixxx registrations. He also state that they are included in Luftfahrtrolle B Since four of these aircraft are illustrated with (real) pics, I have no doubt they are correct. However a friend of mine is admant they are NOT included in any LFR B (or NfL either for that matter) Checking my Heinkel "masterlist" I cannot find anywhere where these 10 aircraft might fit in Does anyone have clue (a guess is good enough for me) what WNr they might have had? As an aside, I was quite disappointed when the author introduces AI generated (fake) photos (a quick count gave 43!!). The book also falls quite short on the final model, the He 42 E Neither was I impressed with his references to Wikipedia..... Cheers Stig |

Re: Heinkel HD 42 aka He 42
Hello Stig,
the original “Luftfahrzeugrolle-B“ (LFR-B) is missing. In the February 1928 issue of the bulletin “Nachrichten für Luftfahrer“ (NfL) all registered aircraft of the “Luftfahrzeugrolle-B“ (LFR-B) were listed. From then on all new registrations and changes were published in the NfL. A complete work of the LFR-B was never published. You can find details in the website of the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Luftfahrthistorik“ (ADL) www.adl-luftfahrthistorik.de. The book “Recherchen zur Deutschen Luftfahrzeugrolle 1919-1934“ (Investigations on the German Aircraft Register 1919-1934) is a reconstruction of the LFR-B and the NfL. There are the research results of Dr. Ernst Vocke, published in 1977 by Karl Ries without permission of Dr. Vocke. In this book 24 He HD 42 are listed: D-1793 WNr. 333 registration February 1930. He 42 b D-2032 – D-2035, WNr. 372-375 registration April 1931 He 42 C D-2346 WNr. 419 D-2351 WNr. 420 D-2353 WNr. 421 D-2354 WNr. 422 D-2370 WNr. 428, all registered October 1932 He 42 D D-2543 – D-2556, WNr. 443-456, registered from July 1933 – October 1933. Re: Heinkel HD 42 aka He 42
Thanks Leo
However all HD 42/He 42 models up to He 42 D are well known. I also now believe we have all the WNr for the He 42 E! What I am after are the 10 listed He 42 B-01 to B-010 (which were built post 1934) They should not be confused with the earlier built HD 42b model All ten aircraft can be found with their "civil" registrations in Golden Years in the D-Ixxx section Cheers Stig |
