JG3 losses 2:nd December, 1944
Hi! I'm helping to identify a late bf109G, either a G-10 or G-14/AS from JG3 that made a bellylanding on the above date. Does anyone have any info on WrkNr. or exact subtype? It's probably "Black 1" but could be any other darker color as well.
Cheers! / Anders |

Re: JG3 losses 2:nd December, 1944
Hi Anders,
Do you know to which Gruppe (I. or III.) this aircraft belonged ? I found 7 losses for the III. and 6 for the I. in the excelent books of Prien/Rodeike. Greetings from a wet Belgium, Dirk |

Re: JG3 losses 2:nd December, 1944
There's no Gruppe bar on the aircraft which would indicate I Gruppe, but that late in the war I'm not sure how reilable that is...

Re: JG3 losses 2:nd December, 1944
Hi Anders,
Are you speaking of the "one" of K-H Willeke? Body-landed during winter of 1944? If yes, this peculiar aicraft was almost certainly of the G14/AS/R8 type, according to its appearance. Unfortunately, its WNr remains unknown to me, ...probably because of censorship works. Looking at its pointed rudder, it may have been in the 784... series. |

Re: JG3 losses 2:nd December, 1944
Looking at the camoflage I thought G-14/AS from Regensburg which fits nicely with your identification of type and Wrk.Nr series. And yes, it's the same aircraft, at bf109.com.
I'm not sure about the tailfin though. If it the photos have been manipulated it's been done very skillfully. The panellines are there and the fin looks exactly the same in two different photos. |

Re: JG3 losses 2:nd December, 1944
Hi Anders,
For such identification purposes, we can thank J-C Mermet kindly. ![]() He has written a very useful booklet on the late versions of the Me 109, after long research on the subject. For the panel lines, I don't see them very distinctly..., how to be sure? Cheers, |

Re: JG3 losses 2:nd December, 1944
Hi, all
The units mentioned suffered a total of 21 aircraft losses of all categories on this day, and I would suspect a lot of these would also be connected to personnel losses. Successful belly-landings ususally did not... but you could be lucky and this aircraft is indeed listed in one of the Namentliche Verlustemeldungen for the unit on this date. However, if a NVM with the aircraft in it exist, it should be listed in Dr. Prien's work on the unit, if not I am afraid you will have to look for a needle in a haystack in other documents. Regards, Andreas B |
