Strange markings on Wellington

The pic below is of the Wellington Mk1a recovered fron Loch Ness and now at Brooklands. Does anyone have any idea what the arrowed red ring is? It's about 10in in diameter and maybe an inch wide. There's a similar mark on the port tail plane.

TIA

Pete

Alex,

Didn't look....d'oh!

One suggestion I've had is that they marked where gas identification patches/paint would go.

Thumbs up Re: Strange markings on Wellington

Hi Pete,

Could be, yes about 18 inches in Dia or there abouts.
Center would be a yellow/mustard colour that would turn to black spots if exposed to gas. You may find traces of the yellow/mustard colour.

Good luck.

Alex
