Possibly JG 53 or JG 4. Do you have any times or locations?

John,

No, unfortunately, I don't. Offhand, I would say JG-53 is the most likely choice. There is a new book on the 368th FG but I have not read it to see if it provides more details.

Ok, here are the details:

[January]14th – Dark day for 368th FG, 6 pilots reported MIA when 12 planes were bounced by 50 enemy.Group could only claim 1 destroyed, but actual number will never be known

From http://www.368thfightergroup.com/368-history.html

From a 1945 victory listing I found on the Web:
http://www.luftwaffe.cz/01-1945.pdf

On Jan 14,1945 the Luftwaffe claimed the following P-47s:
(1) Fhr. Theo Nau-7./JG-11-1 P-47
(2) Oblt. Karl-Heinz Messer -I/JG-4-1 P-47(w.b)
(3) Lt. Josef Kunz-13./JG-4-1 P-47 (prob.)
(4) Lt. Lothar Woff-15./JG-4- 1 P-47
(5) Maj. Anton Hackl-Stab II/JG-26- 1 P-47
(6) Lt. Karl-Heinz Trettau- 6./JG-53- 1 P-47
(7) Lt. Karl Broo-8./JG-53-1 P-47
(8,9) Hptm Alfred Hammer-Stab/II/JG-53-2 P-47s

Hptm Hammer claimed his P-47s at 0938 and 0939 hrs, south of Karlsruhe The times of the other JG-53 victories is not listed.
