Beaufighter of 144 Sq. lost on 26 july 1943

Does anyone knows the position where a Beaufighter of 144 Squadron crashed in the sea in the morning of 26 july 1943 (Armed Rovers, pag. 148-149) after having been attacked by a fighter? Was it off Corsica coast or off Sardinian coast?

Thank you in advance

Gianandrea

Hi,

LX784 was downed by 109's while attacking 323's off Maddalena on this date.

Gianandrea: See John Beaman's earlier posting-this should be in the Allied Section, not Luftwaffe

Re: Beaufighter of 144 Sq. lost on 26 july 1943

Alex,
may you give me any other details about this loss (e.g. number of 109s that attached the Beaufighter and, if possible, a more exact position of the crash)?
Because I've not found any Lw fighter claim on that date in the Tony Wood list (only claim by crews of Me.323). The only claim by italian fighters seems to fit to the loss of a USAAF Beaufighter on the same morning.
TIA

Gianandrea
