Ed West Finding Ju 52 with BMW 801 motors?

Hello you all,

I Ignored Ju 52 ever wore BMW 801 motors. Did you noticed this in Ed West pictures of 02/12? Is there more info about those planes?

BTW Thanks for your fantastic input Ed!

Most probabely the engines are not BMW 801, but Bramo 323s, like the ones for Fw 200.

They are very similar to Savoia 79.

Re: Ed West Finding Ju 52 with BMW 801 motors?

The Ju 52 appears to be a Lufthansa aircraft and this could be one of the four ex. Italian aircraft chartered by RLM to Lufthansa. They were apparently equipped with Alfa Romeo 126 RC34 engines.
W.Nr. 4064 D-AIAO (ex. I-BIZI and MM60410) taken over by Lufthansa 21.09.43
W.Nr. 6710 D-ASPI (ex. I-BIOS) taken over by Lufthansa 21.09.43
W.Nr. 6765 D-AIAT (ex. I-BOAN and MM60413) taken over by Lufthansa 10.10.43
W.Nr. 6803 D-ASPE (ex. I-BERO) taken over by Lufthansa 21.09.43
Perhaps Günther Ott could verify this ?

Yes, but its central engine is different (and it has a 3-bladed prop) while the stbd engine looks like the usual BMW 132. Was this a/c used as a test bed?

BTW, the engines and props of that Lufthansa Ju certainly look Italian to me.

No the central engine looks like Gnome-Rhone 14N installed for example on Bloch MB 152 fighters (France 1940) , it is probably a test bed aircraft .

The shape of the engine cowling are very similar .
