Ju 88 claim 17th May 1944

Good night!
Please, could someone help me to identify the crew, werknummer, codes and Geschwader of a Ju 88 claimed destroyed South of Cape Carteret on 17th May 1944, by a 604 Squadron Mosquito?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Ju 88 claim 17th May 1944

I have no claims for 604 on 17 May and in any case it would have been over or off the UK then. Do you mean Hayhurst & Gosling's kill, 0035 hrs 17-18 Jul 44 15 miles south of Carteret? If so, identification of the victim is difficult as the location is imprecise

Re: Ju 88 claim 17th May 1944

Chris,
Was this claim submitted on 17/18th July or May? The first information I got from Gosling mentions MAY 1944, while flying a NFXIII; but yes, that this claim I am researching...
And regarding 235 Squadron´s Blenheims, I tought they operated under Fighter Command during the 1940 period. Excuse me...
Do you know, I do have a tremendous admiration for what you have been doing in terms of researches and books. We owe a lot for men like you, like Middlebrook, Nick Beale, Norman Malayney, Eric Mombeek. I do not know if we can do that on the forum, but THANKS a lot for writting! Keep researching and making readers like me happy!
All the best

Adriano

I have all of 604's combat reports and there is nothing for 17 May but there is as detailed above for 17-18 Jul 44. As to 235 Sqn, it did operate under FC (hence 235 and 236 got the BofB clasp) but its tasks were of a coastal nature.

Thanks for your kind comments as well!

Chris
