Luftwaffe losses to CAM-ships 1941-43

Hi guys

Following the recent interesting posts regarding Fw200 losses to Audacity's Wildcats in late 1941, can anyone put flesh on bones regarding Cam-ship operations, when mainly FW200s were encountered. I list the ones about which I have some record:

28/4/41 FW200 shot down by CAM-ship Patia, which was also sunk during the attack with the loss of 38 lives.

10/6/41 Fulmar from Pegasus claimed FW200 possibly damaged.

18/7/41 FW200 shot down by Norman Prince.

3/8/41 FW200 shot down by Hurricane from Maplin

26/8/41 FW200 possibly damaged by Fulmar from Ariguani

14/9/41 FW200 possibly damaged by Hurricane from Maplin.

25/5/42 Ju88 shot down by Hurricane from Empire Morn (Convoy PQ16)
He111, He111 damaged by Hurricane from Empire Lawrence (PQ16)

14/6/42 FW200 possibly damaged by Hurricane from Empire Morn

18/9/42 He111, He111 damaged by Hurricane from Empire Morn (PQ18)

1/11/42 FW200 shot down by Hurricane from Empire Heath

28/7/43 FW200 shot down by Hurricane from Empire Darwin
FW200 shot down by Hurricane from Empire Tide

It would also be interesting to learn serial numbers of Hurricanes/Fulmars involved in these combats, in addition to names of Luftwaffe crews/units/markings etc.

Thanks in advance
Brian

Brian:

Wasn't there a book published a few years ago about CAM-ship operations?

Yes, John, but it doesn't contain details from the Luftwaffe side, but thanks anyway.

Yes please Christian - any information on the Luftwaffe crews and aircraft identities is what I am mainly after.

Cheers
Brian

Re: Luftwaffe losses to CAM-ships 1941-43

All I have from notes off the Loss Lists plus books/articles are:-

28/4/41 - 29-4-41? F8+HH w.n.0054 crew of Oblt. Roland Schelcher four dead two missing, fell off the Shetlands to enemy Zestorer (aircraft or ship ?).
18-7-41 - F8+AB (SG+KS) w.n 0043 crew of Hpt Fritz Fliegel missing was about to be attacked by Cam Ship Hurricane when wing blown off by ships AA.
3-8-41 - F8+CL wn 0066 damaged by Cam Ship Hurricane crash-landed France two dead one inj.
1/11/42 - 31-10-42? F8+DS wn 0070 crew of Oblt. Arno Grad missing.
28-7-43 F8+FK wn 0177 crew of Ofw. Woschek missing . The account I read said the Condor crew were watching out for two Cam Ship Hurricanes scrambled against them when they were attacked by a B24 of 480 ASG flown by 1/Lt Hyde. and forced to ditch.
Some of this is from quite old sources so any corrections welcome,
hope it is of some help,
Regards

Re: Luftwaffe losses to CAM-ships 1941-43

Hi again!
About the 28. - 29. april 1941, the rest of the crew were

FF Uffz. Josef Obergauling killed
BF Ofw. Otto Varpahl missing
BF? Ogr Rudolf Renntrop killed
BM Uffz. Josef Niklas
BS Gfr. Erwin Sengbusch

In the old book about FW 200 by Heinz Nowarra it says that the incident happened near the Faroe islands.

Hope this helps a little - I will get back when i find out some more.
Cheers
Christian
