german bouncing bomb

hi everybody. can anyone shed some light on the german version of the bouncing bomb, i remember seeing a programme about 10 years ago about it . as i remember it was rocket powered and skimmed the water surface rather than bouncing, i think the project was codenamed kurt. any info, pics or diagrams would be great....cheers.steve...

Re: german bouncing bomb

Hi Karaya, the "Kurt" bomb was mentioned in the book "The Secret War" by Brian Johnson (pub.1978 BBC Publications) which was based on the BBC Television Series of the same name.On pages 302/303 there is a paragraph of text and 4 small photos. This is an edited version of the text....
"...the Kurt bouncing bomb...was rocket assisted, the rocket breaking off on contact with the water, leaving the 850lb bomb to bounce...for up to 500 yards before sinking alongside its target, then exploding at a given depth by a hydrostatic fuse.Kurt was extensivley tested...using an Me 410 and later an Fw 190 able to carry 2 bombs.Kurt was cancelled in 1944."
As for the Fw 190 carrying 2 bombs, I personally doubt it, as I think the author has mistaken the rocket breaking off as a second bomb.
I'm sorry but I'm not able to scan the photos for you but hopefully you can obtain a copy of the book or a video/dvd of the television series.
I hope this has been of some help to you.

Here are some details:

Apparently, I can't link directly to the relevant page. Click on Air Forces, then click on the German flag, and then click on Drop Weapons and, finally, on SB.

Re: german bouncing bomb

Sorry about the screwy site navigation. I started it just as a hobby and never really planned it out. Guess it's due for some updating....

Hope the info was useful
