He-111 H-6 (7492), 7/ KG 53 crashed on 9-8-1942 to Worthing.
My name is Everard Bakker and I am from Holland. I am looking for information about the HE 111 H-6 (7492) from the 7/ KG 53.
This plane is shot down on the evening of 9th August 1942 and crashed in the city of Worthing. I am looking for information about this plane. I have red in a archive that this plane was a tugger for a glider. Unfortunately, I haven't found any evidence about this glider. Where has the glider been? Was the He-111 on a secret attack mission? Five Germans were killed. The names are; Uffz. H. Grosse-Heitmeyer Gefr. Grussner, G. Obergefr. Richter, J. Obergefr. Dolejal, F Uffz Kielmann, A. Could you help me? With kind regards, Everard Bakker Eemnes Holland |

Hello Everard.
In the Blitz Then and Now it does state that the RAF found this aircraft very interesting as glider towing equipment was found in the tail. It was hit by both heavy AA forcing it down low and then light AA finished it off. It appears to have been A1+CR and crashed at 11.09. Sorry this is all i can find. Regards Jon |

Hit by Flak on a bombing mission and crashed into housing at Lyndhurst Road, Worthing, killing 3 and injuring 5. It dropped its bombs before it crashed and yes, there was a glider towing device on the ac. It was not carrying out anything unusual, just a bombing raid

Re: He-111 H-6 (7492), 7/ KG 53 crashed on 9-8-1942 to Worthing.
Hi Everard.
The Blitz Then and Now definately states that it was shot down by both heavy and light British AA. As Heavy AA could only really engage aircraft at a height i have put two and two together and hopefully come up with four! There were many instances in the war on both sides of the channel of bombers being damaged, loosing height and then falling to the lighter faster firing and more accurate light AA. I new an old RAF airgunner back in the early 1980's, he was in a Wellington damaged by Flack over Germany and forced to loose height due to a damaged engine. He said that the bad part of the whole flight was at about 6,000ft they came into range of the "light stuff" and they actually got hit the worst when crossing over a British warship at dock on the South East coast. He said the Royal Navy were rubbish shots apart from that night when everything their British collegues shot at them hit them !! Why the interest in this one Heinkel ? Jon |

I do not have the names of those killed or injured-you might get the names of those killed from the CWGC site.

Jon,
The reason of my interest? This HE-111 got a hit from a airgunner above Selsey Bill a few minutes before he crashed into Worthing. After the shots of the airgunner, the HE-111 got a hit from AA. Everard |
