379th BG POWs or Evaders ?

Hallo all,

B-17 42-39782 was lost on 8 February 1944. There is some confusion in various published sources and the internet about the status of two of the crew; S/Sgts Charles E. Atkinson and George F. Bennett.

I know the NARA POW website does not list them. Can anyone please say for definite whether they were POWs or Evaders ?

Many thanks,

Martin Gleeson.

Hallo Mike,

Thanks for that. I do have the three Adams/Andrews volumes on the Mighty Eighth. I should have been more specific perhaps.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.

Re: 379th BG POWs or Evaders ?

Hello Martin,

Could it be that they either evaded and were then captured ?
Or perhaps were taken as POW's and later escaped from captivity ?

That would lead to some confusion as to recording them as either POW or Evaders perhaps.

All for now
Alex

Hallo Alex,

Could be either case. Just cannot tell from the sources I have.
