Luftwaffe Ground Units
Hello Gents,
I've acquired a wehrpass of a Luftwaffe ground personnal. Who was with units Flughafenbetriebeskompanie 55 --Flughafenbetriebskompanie / Lg1 ---Flughafenbetriebskompanie (Qu) between 1939 - 45 reading his battle calendar the units were involved in fighting against England, Soviet Russia, and partisans in Serbia / Croatia. I've looked through Lexikon der Wehrmacht, & Feldgrau, but drawn a blank, any information would be appreciated i.e where were the units based or other relevant information. Thanks in advance. Regards |

Re: Luftwaffe Ground Units
Essentially a Flughafenbetriebeskompanie is the ground echelon that keeps the airmen flying. At least some of these were attached to particular flying units and I'm sure someone here can say whether others were static at a given place or assigned to different units/airfields as needed.
Any anti-partisan work could have been a matter of turning out everyone who could carry a rifle either ot fend off an attack or to sweep the area surrounding a base (that certainly happened in Italy). |
