Unknown camo on Bf109G
Good morning,
I've never seen that camouflage; any suggestions? http://cgi.ebay.de/3-Fotos-Me-109-Ab...item3362258752 I can't resist to load the pictures: Cheers, Franck. Last edited by ouidjat; 30th January 2011 at 11:15. |

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
Look interesting, like desert adaptation but who knows.

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
JG 4 used a pattern like that in Italy in 1943/44. Also, IIRC a recon unit based in the Balkans used a similar pattern but with seemingly lighter colors.

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
Hi John,
except I don't see any white band around the fuselage... but, yes, two little things below the canopy indicating this is a Trop version... It's a good suggestion John, thank you. It's a pity I don't have pictures of such pattern. Cheers, Franck. |

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
My first thought was of Heinrich Klöppers "White 1" of JG1 that he bellylanded in November 1943. The camoflage is similar and the area is right too. On the other hand I'm not sure how reliable the caption is as it says 1940 which is clearly wrong.

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
Hi Anders
Definitly the caption is wrong concerning the date but may be not the place (Belgium)... III gruppe was going around after May 1943; Holland, Germany, France... Is there a Red band around the fuselage?.. Seems the answer is not obvious. Cheers, Franck. |

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
Klöpper didn't have a red band on his aircraft in November and on this aircraft it looks more like a segment of camoflag in the general area where the red band should have been.
Cheers! / Anders |

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
Hello,
Yes, I know Anders, I was just talking for the general case ... I got another picture, still on eBay, but a Bf109F that time... Camouflage looks very close to the one we are talking about (Still a white(?) 4 but it's just a mere coincidence); here it is: Regards, Franck. Last edited by ouidjat; 30th January 2011 at 11:15. |

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
Another possibility would be I./JG 4.

Re: Unknown camo on Bf109G
Hello Primoz,
This solution is elegant! Came from JG77 elements, got G-6/Trop, fought in Northern Italy - last, looking at that picture we (I) think about brown camouflages... I like it. The unit was in Belgium area too and did have - at the beginning - Bf109F until November 1943... What else? ... And the building in the Bf109F picture background looks like a rumanian monastry -at least what looks like a steeple. Is it asking too much? Thanks for this comment. Regards, Franck.
