Re: KG 200 Pilot’s
"41-6328/4th Fighter Group loss Hello all,
As an aside on the subject. The Germans are known to have in the early war years, repaint downed German a/c with Allied markings when transporting them across parts of germany. This was for the people's moral. Is it not a possibility that the Germans did the same thing in reverse in the late stages of the war to demoralize the advancing allied troops by painting downed allied a/c in German markings.Any thoughts on this . Alex." This is a quote from the above mentioned discuission! Does anyone know how Alex came up with this idea? It would invite both Flak and german fighters to shoot them down without "asking first"!! Sadly such hear say keeps coming up again and again. Until now any no solid evidence to support this has come to light. Junker Last edited by ju55dk; 30th April 2006 at 07:51. |

Re: KG 200 Pilot’s
The only "foreign" fighter with german markings ever used operationally was the Macchi C. 205 of II./JG 77 (September-December 1943). Everything else is crap...
A very recommendable (and very old) book about captured allied a/c is Werner Lerche´s "Testpilot auf Beuteflugzeugen", but it is very hard to get, and I don´t know if there was an English edition... Regards, Heuser |

Re: KG 200 Pilot’s
Hi
Werner Lerche´s book is available in english and not so hard to find. Interesting, although very good, it only seems to relate to his experiences , what he flew and what he heard was captured. For example, his book mentions nothing about captured hurricanes, the captured hampden, but plenty of evidence is around, it is however a good starting point in researching captured a/c, I finish in saying it is an excellent book, and I recommend it to all.
