17.3.45 unknown a/c crashed near Paderborn
Hallo and sorry for my bad english.
For a very long time I did not look into this forum, sorry. Please allow my question. On 17.3.45 crashed an a/c near Paderborn. As I know two crew members were burried on the Hanover-Limmer cementry. Were they british? The a/c number could be - PZ 343 B - from 605 Sqn. Perhaps someone will help me with information. Kindest regards Fitti from Paderborn |

It could very well be, but what source is telling you that it could be a Mosquito PZ343 'B' from No.605 Squadron, RAF?

Re: 17.3.45 unknown a/c crashed near Paderborn
A few months ago I received an enquiry about a crash site in Germany that apparently was this same aircraft, asking if I could help to identify it. Without further details it was pretty impossible, but the aircraft you have identified was flown by Wg Cdr R A Mitchell DFC and Flt Lt S H Hatsell DFC who were lost on an evening intruder operation. I had been told that Mosquito wreckage etc had recently been located in a wood. Is this the same site/incident, perhaps?

Re: 17.3.45 unknown a/c crashed near Paderborn
Hallo,
I found the information about the crash in the archiv of the smal town Schlangen. It is 15 km east of Paderborn. The two crew members were burried in Hannover-Limmer after the war. I thing Mitchell and Hatsell must be the crew. The crashsite was near Schlangen, near by the Bundesstraße No 1 former Reichsstraße No 1. The wooden area ist called "Schlüsselgrund" as I found after the answers from www.luftarchiv.de in Germany. Thank You very much for Your answers from the cold Paderborn, Fitti Sorry again, my english isn't very well |

Re: 17.3.45 unknown a/c crashed near Paderborn
Thank you guys for your information.
I am waiting for some documents from the small city archiv of Schlangen. When I get them we will know more about this crash. I found them at the cementry of Hannover-Limmer. The "Schlüsselgrund" is between Kohlstädt (1,5 mile east of Schlangen) and Horn (today Horn-Bad-Meinberg). When I get the documents, we will find the crash-place. I will post my information. I wish everybody a nice weekend, Fitti |
