RAF Fighter Command losses book?
Can anyone tell me what the best book is to buy for all the RAF Fighter Command losses? Would you advice me Norman L.R. Franks books?
In the meantime, I'm looking for Spitfire losses on 9,10 and 11 August 1943. Thanks! Last edited by Dennis N; 31st December 2010 at 10:58. |

Re: RAF Fighter Command losses book?
Thanks FrankieS! However the one I'm searching for is not in this list. Perhaps it could be a Tempest?
Anyway, I just ordered the three volumes from Norman L.R. Franks, won't be a waist of money. ;-) |

Not in August 1943 ... Tempest entered service January 44, first ops April 44.

Re: RAF Fighter Command losses book?
Hmmm, ok, thanks Chris, however I was to say Typhoon... My bad! Then I have to check my books for any USAAF losses on these days or else the eye-witness I spoke has mixed up some things. He spoke about a Spitfire, so I have to check any kind of fighterplane.

Re: RAF Fighter Command losses book?
Thanks guys, unfortunately all of them are not close to the spot the man pointed out. He must have mistaken another accident (I think A.J. Shirm, 29 July 1942) with this one (an unknown airman who washed ashore on 10 August 1943 and he saw a Spitfire crash the day before just before the coast).
