Re: Bf109G-6 "Yellow 6" II./JG77 photo request
Sounds to me like a description of Rene Darbois' Bf109G-6 Yellow 4 from JG4. I don't think it was actually painted in the colors described but rather similar colors from the Italian range if I remember correctly.
It seems odd that an aircraft with such a special scheme doesn't ring a bell with anyone here as it surely would have been noticed by many. On the other hand as both JG4 and JG51 flew aircraft with heavily modified paintjobs it's off course not impossible that JG77 did too. Cheers! / Anders |

Re: Bf109G-6 "Yellow 6" II./JG77 photo request
no I'm sorry but its not the defectors mount I'm talking about. there are plenty of that aircrafts photo's around on the net.
you are very correct about JG4, & JG51. I may also add JG53, & JG54. but I guess the one I'm looking for would be most simular to Bf109G-2 'Red 6'. III./JG53, Sicily, colour pattern wise I mean. I believe that G-2 used overall RLM 78, with RLM 79/82 mottle instead of the G-6 I'm looking for overall RLM 78, with RLM 81/82 mottle. thanks for replying. |

By the summer of 1944 you only had I./JG 4, Stab and III./JG 53 and Stab, I. and II./JG 77 remaining. All of them were gone by the first week in September. I could be proved wrong but I don't think you would find colours 81 and 82 on a single German Bf 109 G-6 serving in Italy because they all left before those colours came into general use. Later, Bf 109 G-14, G-10 and K-4 supplied to the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana did use those paints however. |

Re: Bf109G-6 "Yellow 6" II./JG77 photo request
Hello,
JG54 in terms of heavily modified paintjobs, sorry for any confusion. three things I am certain of: 1. it was JG77 2. it was a Bf 109G-6 3. it was overall RLM 78 it may have used Italian colours as substitutes for the mottling I mentioned. the mottling was not dense, but patches here and there of both colours (81?82?). the main colour was RLM 78. thanks for the reply. |

I'm sure that II./JG 77 had a Bf 109 G-6 "yellow 6" in 1944 (probably several) but unfortunately no one here so far seems to know a reference for the machine you describe. |

Re: Bf109G-6 "Yellow 6" II./JG77 photo request
Almost a year too late!!
Not a photo but an image from a simulator skin. The Breffort and Joineau Bf109 book Volume II on page 40 has a profile of a Bf 109G-2 in this scheme. But no photos to prove.... Cheers Chris Last edited by ChrisS; 10th October 2013 at 15:02. |

Re: Bf109G-6 "Yellow 6" II./JG77 photo request
In spring 1944 Bf109G-6s without camouflage obviously reached the Italian airfields. Good examples for this "camouflage" are WNr 162656 and 162764 which share the same RLM 76 basic colour and RLM 74 cockpit frames.
162656 was photographed in destroyed condition at Regensburg-Obertraubling after the bombing of the factory on February 25th, 1944. 162764 StKz RU+OZ landed at Samedan/Switzerland March 29th, 1944 after navigational errors and should have been ferried to Osoppo/Northern Italy. Initial flight of 162764 was March 18th, 1944 at Regensburg. Because of the winter conditions - photos of the attack show snow-covered areas in Bavaria - RLM 76 as camo did not offer problems. Even not during the transfer across the Alps. The reason for the missing camo obviously was the destruction of the painting shops as happened before in August '43, when the Mtt-Prüfening paint shops had been destroyed and painting was completed at Mtt-Obertraubling. Because of this we have to expect field-applied camouflage for the semi-finished Bf 109G-6s of this batch. Some Bf109s using so-called Italian paints might turn out to be 109s (semi-)completed in February/March 1944 Regards Roland Last edited by RolandF; 29th April 2012 at 18:09. Reason: typo |
