Re: Who shot down PR Spitfire on 3 June 1940?
Interesting.
What evidence is there that P9331 was the Spitfire flown at Rechlin as "2-1"? The Spitfire "2-1" could also conceivably be P9317 of 222 Sq flown by P/O H. E.L. Falkhurst who landed wheels down on June 1,1940. The plane was in flyable shape from all the pictures I've seen. There are quite a few from E-bay sales IN "Flugerprobungstellen bis 1945" there is a table of the captured A/C used by Rechlin. In this table, Spitfire "2-1" is listed as on strength at Rechlin from June 1940 through March 1941. Another Spitfire I was coded "4-5" and was on strength from October 1940.Finally, "5-2" was on strength from December 1941 through September 1942. |
