Original? Hi Ed, This picture shows us a Bourget Air Show in 1932. N°217 on PZL fuselage is typical temporary marking of that show. The plane in background is a Morane Saulnier 230, F-AMBT, owned by Jean Assollant famous french pilot (Oiseau Canari) at Velizy in 1932! And the picture was most probably taken by an american citizen and printed in Brandeis, Massachusets. So I bet, yes, an orignal. Regards, Franck. |

There is no Brandeis, Massachusetts. It does not exist. But in 1932 there was a department store chain in Nebraska called J. L. Brandeis & Sons. Thus the name on the back of "Brandeis Stores", which was it popular name. In nearly every store in the US that had a photo department, it was tied in to Kodak, and the use of the name Kodak was a promotion of "quality" processing and printing. And Ed, thanks for the continued mining for gems. Much appreciated.

Re: Photos 11-26-12
Modeldad,
Maybe you're right and the question was "Original?" I think I gave a fair answer ... and the name is Brandeis not Brandies. http://www.brandeis.edu/ I agree I did just took what I got through google. Here is the link. Now, if you don't agree with my comments you can explain why. And yes, you're right, "Thank you Ed". I just want to remember that when Ed wasn't available for personnal reasons I took a reasonnable place of this stuff on my own personnal time, with my own style. But for sure I'm not going to say thank you on each of my posts. I know that work, few are doing it, Peter on LEMB is one of them even if I don't agree with him on many points, and believe me: Ed, Peter and few others are not considered the way they deserve to be ... as I did too. But all did and do it because they deeply like to do it for all guys and, indeed, for themselves too. To say "thank you for the gems" is one thing, to contribute and to add something more is quite different. So, thanks for your comment, but do you agree with my comment which is a true answer to Ed question? Best regards, Franck. |

Re: Photos 11-26-12
Do I agree? Yes and no. The picture is authentic. But it most likely was taken at the Cleveland Air Races held from 27 August to 5 September, 1932. Both the PZL P.II/III and the Morane Saulnier 230 were on display. Given the dates and location, that would account for the picture being processed in Nebraska by 15 October 1932.
And as for adding, I'll pass off your rudeness to inability to communicate in English.

Good, and thank you!
Indeed I'm not English! But the way you started is universal. You're forgiven, you can find more "foreigners" in the world than WASPs, even in USA alone. Cheers, Franck. |

Re: Photos 11-26-12
Steve is quite correct
The photo depicts the PZL 11/III in the 1932 Cleveland Air Races. Most probably it is the pilot Colonel Jerzy Kossowski in front. However I am much more delighted over the find of the solitary Douglas Dolphin, here http://www.ebay.de/itm/ws/eBayISAPI....m=370696165201 I even stick out my neck and say this is F-ANJT stuck at Le Bourget... ![]() Cheers Stig |
