8 JG3 losses over Normandy
Hello,
I'm looking for any information regarding a Bf-109 G-6 163659 Grün 3 of 8 JG 3, Uffz Gerhard Rehberg. I've found that most of the III JG3 aircraft were coded in either yellow/white/or black numerals, I find it strange that this a/c had a Green numbers? Possibly a transfer? I'd appreciate any feedback, Tom |

Re: 8 JG3 losses over Normandy
All it might mean is that it was a Gruppenstab aircraft. If an 8. Staffel pilot was flying it then (as far as I know) the loss would be attributed to his unit. Aircraft were swapped around a lot under the pressures of the Normandy campaign and units rotating back home to refit would leave their aircraft to others still at the front.
