Re: Victors over JG53 losses 15/09/40

Chris,
The NVM you have states died "in Lazarett". Is it possible that this was an English hospital, rather than a German one? Where is he buried?

Enjoy!

Frank.

Matti,
The date 30 Nov 1940 is probably the date handwritten in the NVM of when the German authorities were told that he was a PoW.

We deliberately did not report PoWs immediately, because the Germans would enquire through the International Red Cross about many individuals, and us, being sneaky, wanted to know of any additioanal losses we were unaware of, but the Germans may think were PoWs. Thus we gained knowledge of the losses on land in the UK, and also the German crew losses into the Channel and North Sea that we were unaware of.

The mysterious Alfred Müller was among the 29 repatriated Luftwaffe persons, who got a new EKM number by Frontfliegersammelgruppe in December 1943. Reason "Alte in engl. Gefangenschaft ausgenommen".
