Re: Battle for Kiev 1943: VVS order of battle

This is just an update of teh first mail (thanks for the input, Henry!):

Latest results are, that the 2nd AirArmy participated in this battle, with the following units under its command:
  • 5.ShAK (4.GShAD, 264.ShAD), eq.Il-2
  • 5.IAK:
    8.GIAD: 620.IAP?, 40.GIAP, 41.GIAP, 88.GIAP eq. (La5)
    256IAD: 728IAP eq. Jak-7B, 91IAP eq. Jak-1, 32.IAP
  • 10.IAK
    10.GIAD: ?
    235IAD: 3GIAP&181IAP eq.La5, 239IAP
    201IAD (?): 13&437IAP eq.La5FN, 236IAP (Jak1)
  • 202 BAD: ?
  • 227,291ShAD, eq.Il-2
  • 208NBAD, eq. Po-2
  • 50RAP: ?
Who can contribute more informations about
  • additional units
  • subordinated units (IAP's, ShAP's etc) and
  • the planetypes used (especially fighters, I suspect there were even P40's)
  • AF's used (afaik, they had only AF's far away from Kiew)
Thanks!

32. IAP most probably Yak-7B and possible Yak-9, but not Yak-1.

Re: Battle for Kiev 1943: VVS order of battle

There is this site:

http://allaces.ru/cgi-bin/s2.cgi/sssr/struct/p.dat

It is in Russian. (I use www.online-translator.com to convert to English) Each entry gives a brief summary of regiments, divisions, etc. of the VVS. There is a lot of data to sift through.

Re: Battle for Kiev 1943: VVS order of battle

Some clerifying moments.

10 GIAD is the same as 201 IAD.
Regiments were promoted in the following order:
13 IAP - 111 GIAP (La-5)
236 IAP - 112 GIAP (Yak-1)
437 IAP - 113 GIAP (La-5)
No 620 IAP could be found in 8 GIAD neither during the Kiev battle, nor at other orders for battles. 927 IAP (La-5) was shortly assigned to 8 GIAD first for the Kursk battle and second time during battle for the Dnieper crossings and Kiev in september-october 1943.

Re: Battle for Kiev 1943: VVS order of battle

Thanks to NBE1942 & Henry, we get more details slowly:
  • 5.ShAK (4.GShAD, 264.ShAD), eq.Il-2
  • 5.IAK:
    8.GIAD: 40.GIAP, 41.GIAP,
  • 927IAP&88.GIAP eq. (La5)
    256IAD: 728IAP eq. Jak-7B, 91IAP eq. Jak-1, 32.IAP
  • 10.IAK
    235IAD: 3GIAP&181IAP eq.La5, 239IAP
    201IAD
    aka 10GIAD: 13IAP aka 111GIAP &437IAP aka 113GIAP eq.La5FN, 236IAP aka 116GIAP (Jak1)
  • 202 BAD: ?
  • 227,291ShAD, eq.Il-2
  • 208NBAD, eq. Po-2
  • 50RAP: ?
I think the promotions of 201IAD and its IAPs to Guards did happen after Kiev (?). Gotta check the allaces-site, but time is running and I have to work on the map-projects for PF and... life is always like some rockstar once said: "So many girls, so little time "

Still AF's would be interesting... couldn't find names in Woroshekins biography...

Is there a site liek www.ww2.dk for the VVS?

Hello!

Not as comprehensive, but a good start for the organizational structure:
http://www.allaces.ru/cgi-bin/s2.cgi...truct/main.dat

It's all in Russian so knowing the cyrillics (at least) is of help.

Cheers,
Kari
