Mannheim 23rd September 1943

On 23rd September 1943, Lancaster JA 708, of 97 Squadron was shot down at 21:47 (U.K. time) 2 minutes after bombing Mannheim.

One of the deceased body was found on a hill called Bosenburg, about 6 kilometers from Maikammer. Does anyone know if the aircraft crash site has been located or researched?

Hi David,

I recently visited Rheinberg Cemetery and have pictures of the headstones of the three crew members that perished. I'll look into the incident a little more deeply and see if i can identify the night fighter responsible for its loss.

Many thanks. I believe Ulrich Veh was the fighter pilot. There is a post about him in this forum.

Re: Mannheim 23rd September 1943

Three years ago I posted here in the hope that someone could help locate the crash site of JA 708.

Perhaps someone reading this can help me.
