Re: 'Yellow 16' recovered today
Hello Franek
At the moment the plan is to preserve it as it is. The history of the aircraft will be establish as soon as we find the correct Werk.No. Olve Dybvig |

Re: 'Yellow 16' recovered today
Now that sounds great. I hope it is not seriously coroded. You have to find the missing canopy anyway. I am not sure if assignment could be verified by the WNr if aircraft suffered no previous damage, but I believe old markings may be a clue. Have you found anything in terms of papers in the cockpit? This was one of most amazing finds when a Fw 190F was recovered in Poland.

Re: 'Yellow 16' recovered today
Franek
As far as I know, no papers was found in the cockpit. We have several clues about the identity, but to be sure, we need the Werk.no. I will be back in a few days to tell more Best Olve |

'Yellow 16' recovered today
Hi all
Did see a photo of the fin tip underwater last year and it seemed to have two numbers on it. Due to the age of the airframe and 3-4 ID's, it being repaired is highly likely and the fin unit might well have been replaced. Fin is important as this is where a triangular plate was located although it may be incorrect. Will need to assess and cross reference the different W.Nr's (0)425 / (3)425 / (5)425 to see if any are the same. 30/40% damage is quite significant for mid 1943 damage and repair if (0)425 / (3)425 is 5425 was lost 5-6 months later Perhaps there is a repair report in Norway for this airframe? Andreas will have to have a look. Looking at the recovery photos it was 'Yellow 16' (15?) on its last flight. Before that it was 'Black 6' Possiblu 'Black 1' or 'Black 10' before that, and another black number before that. 2./JG5 or 11./JG5 Usually there is an ID plate 300mm aft of the hatch on the outside and one on the opposite side internally. Ammunition boxes/compass mox, radio/battery box and cockpit consulesoften had the W.Nr painted although often these were mixed up as well.Might well be corroded away. Possibly the confirmation of Stkz RT+CY to the underside at least can be confirmed with 5425. Looks as though the MG/FFs were deleted though the ammunition bulge is still there. MG151 in place and MG17's removed previously. Very nice embems below cockpit and on engine cowling. A lot of research needs to be looked at to eventually confirm the W.Nr. Very nice recovery. regards MS |

Re: 'Yellow 16' recovered today
Hi all,
I want to share a photo with you taken in 1945 at a (prisoner?) camp in Bowoen, where the JG 5 and the Mickey Mouse emblem is in front of the cottage. The photo was sent from Heinz Orlowski. Thanks Andreas, great work and good luck! All the best, Horst Last edited by Horst Kube; 23rd August 2007 at 05:57. |

Re: 'Yellow 16' recovered today
While we're on the subject of recovered Fw.190s, what happened to that D-9 of JG-26 they pulled from Lake Schwerin, Germany?
![]() Does anyone have recent photos of the plane that they could post? ![]() Stephen |

I think that the location is Boemoen (or in norwegian Bømoen), a internment camp in Norway where the pilots and ground personnel from Herdla were sent after the war ended. So - the next question is - what Staffel used this emblem (the Mickey Mouse on skis) in 1945? I will have a look at the Staffelstammbau tonight and post more later. Regards, Andreas |
