Loss there may have been Sgt William Johnson of No. 541 Squadron in BS498 instead.

Sgt Johnson's objective was the Dortmund-Ems Canal. He took off from Benson at 06:00. UK was using DBST (GMT+2) on 13 Jun 43 which was the same as MET so Hutter's claim (08:03) would match the probable location and time for Johnson on his return leg.

Schoehl's claim (09:55) seems too late to be Johnson's Spitfire and as Chris says a much better match for Hall's machine both for time and location.

Re: Luftwaffe claim - 13 June 1943 - Spitfire 222 Squadron

ORB of No. 541 Squadron has that Johnson was (probably) shot down in the 'Rhudenall' area or spelling to that effect. Given the now sometimes frustrating 'corruption' of Continental place names in Allied reports, I suspect it to be Roosendaal in SW Holland.

A JG 1 report it says: II./ Jagdgeschwader 1
--//-- Im Laufe des Tages werden 7 Einsätze geflogen: 3 Rotteneinsätze, 1 Ketteneinsatz und
3 Gruppen einsätze mit 19, 17 und 15 Fw 190. Beim Rotteneinsatz von 0735 bis
0825 schoss Ofw. Hütter eine einzeln fliegende Spitfire ab.

Since Johnson flew alone and Hall in Squadron formation...

Thanks Leendert

So either Hall stayed hidden for two days or he remembered the actual date wrong.

Makes little difference since the outcome was the same.
Glad he survived the ordeal

Cheers
