Erich, Did you know something about I./ZG 26 losses on 7th July ? 8th USAAF fighter pilots claimed 21 Me 410s shot down, it will be huge overclaiming. In "Me 410 in combat" I found information that ZG 26 lost 16 Me 410s that day, but it can be typo for "6" cause book is full of errors.

Its can by interesting for you that except Capt. Jim Morris P-38, USAAF lost in combat with Me 410 also two P-51B. According great "Fighter Units & Pilots of the 8th Air Force' book by Keneth D. Miller:
Lt. J. M. Scally (334th FS/4th FG) collided with Me 410 near Nordhausen, POW,
Lt. H. M. Huish (354th FS/355th FG) hit by debris from Me 410 near Halle, KIA.
Heber Huish flying Kinnard's wing, flew into an engine from a 410 that Kinnard blew up. The 355th claimed 13 and were awarded 11 Me 410's for July 7 between the 354 and 357FS.

I read each of the encounter reports and there isn't much doubt that these a/c were destroyed - either blown up or fire balls, or wing separating..possibly Ju 88s were mis identified as 410s..
