P/O Kenneth Samson TAYLOR - 71 Squadron

Can anyone fill in some missing details for me please?

P/O K S Taylor (USA) of 71 Squadron was killed in a crash in the UK on 9 August 1941. Unless I missed something the details did not appear in the squadron ORB for this day.

P/O K S Taylor 83701 is buried at Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey.

In Vern Haugland's 'the Eagle Squadrons' no incident is mentioned. In the roll of honor Taylor's name is mentioned with the date and remark "North Weald".

Yes, that all seems to fit although, yet again, there is nothing in the Squadron ORB on this incident - unless I missed it! Also, 71 Squadron defintely still had Hurricanes at this time and so I am wondering if this was one of the first delivered to the squadron as they had them very soon after this date. Or was it just a case of Taylor "borrowing" a 602 Squadron aeroplane and things going horribly wrong?

Re: P/O Kenneth Samson TAYLOR - 71 Squadron

I asked on RAFCommands and was told that Kenneth S Taylor aged 24, death was registered in Epping (4a 412) Q3 1941

This provides more evidence for Spitfire P8572 of 71 Sqn Dived in Ground at near Ongar, Essex on 9 August 1941

BTW I am not sure if Taylor was not from Canada, he might have enlisted via the USA though or as or CWGC 'Born in the USA' - His father lived in Vancouver, but he was previously enlisted in the US Navy
