A little correction: an F-5B was the photo reconnaissance version of a P-38 and not a P-51 (must be a typo on the nimh.nl website..!). Even so, Capt Cassaday was KIA and is now buried at Margraten. The old men pointed me a little in the direction of the typo. He said it was a double tailed airplane.
The townfolk talked about a coloured pilot but I guess after seeing the photo he was probably badly burnt. Thanks for the info. |
