Re: P-40 downed Sicilian coast (?)

Hi,

there is the photo from Don Woerpel´s book The 79th FG (Schiffer publ.) - number of aircraft looks like X6o6, but this crash is from Gulf of Tunis 22.4.1943 - pilot Fred Borsodi unhurt.

Did you show your photo with german soldiers ?

Re: P-40 downed Sicilian coast (?)

Hi Faenor,
the photo I have will be taken short after the crashlanding, with german soldiers around the plane.

Will see later to bring my new scanner to the pc and show the pic later this day.

Maybe the same plane - beach looks similiar.

Re: P-40 downed Sicilian coast (?)

Hi Khorat,

nice photo - but poor quallity :-(
In my opinion, this is the same as the aircraft from Don Woerpel´s book The 79th FG (Schiffer publ) :
- same prefix X6star6 and info from the book - Fred Borsodi was downed by AA and escaped
- about 1/2 of missing right wing
- look at the beach - on your photo you will see rush of water in the line with propeller and on the photo from book, there is the aircraft after the tide and the aircraft is propably "broken" after engine section .

Re: P-40 downed Sicilian coast (?)

hm the original photos is much better - think too its the same plane - also there (mine pic) only the right wingtip bent up , left wing is ok, but been sure its the same plane.
Thanks to all
