Bombing of New Milton Hampshire 23/08/40
At approx 18.00 on the 23rd of August 1940, a lone He111 dropped its load on Station Road, New Milton, Hampshire killing 19 civillians and 5 servicemen. Can anyone tell me which units were operating over the Southampton / New Forest areas on that day? The Blitz Then and Now is unable to assist. Thanks

Re: Bombing of New Milton Hampshire 23/08/40
Thanks Chris that's great. It certainly did not hit the railway station though, the rearest bomb damage was nearly 300 meters away. Amongst the 24 killed were 19 local civilian, including a member of the home guard, a Captain and a corporal of the Royal Artillery and three Lancashire Fusiliers. I have been asked to write a small piece on the bombing for an exhibition of New Milton history, I don't suppose you have any more details of the aircraft, crew, intended target ect. Thanks as always. Del.
