ID Halifax crew of 102 Squadron

Good morning to all!
A friend of mine just bought this photograph from Ebay. This is certainly a Halifax from 102 Squadron. It is said that it was flown by a Squadron Leader, probably a Flight Commander.
Could someone help us to identify the crew, serial number and codes of this aircraft? Any information is welcomed.
Many thanks in advance
Adriano

Re: ID Halifax crew of 102 Squadron

Hello udf00,
Thank you very much for the clear identification of the Squadron. We do have a "north" now.
However, it is said by the Ebay seller ( and we can clearly see that this is an old photograph not a possible copy ) that this is a PRESS RELEASE photograph. I believe that those 1949-45 Crown Copyright photographs were released to Magazines, newspapers, etc...I have bought similar photographs released to the press. I understand that now those pictures are held at the IWM.
AGAIN, I do thank you for the clear identification ot the Squadron ( we thought it was from 102 Ceylon Squadron ), codes and dates.
Yours
Adriano Baumgartner

Re: ID Halifax crew of 102 Squadron

udf00,
By the way...they are cleanly 2 differente photographs. The picture my friend bought do not have the full nacelles of the engines framed; and the airmen on the left side are watching to the right side. That one from the IMW was, obviously, taken at the same airfield, the same day ( no doubt about that ); however we can see that the aircrew on the left side are looking at the photographer and we can see clearly Nº2 engine ( plainly visible ). I understand they are two different pictures though.
BUT certainly, the same crew and aircraft...and we know now that they are 466 Squadron, thanks to you precise identification.
Thanks again!

Re: ID Halifax crew of 102 Squadron

Yes, was also a bit hasty with the squadron ID, No. 466 was at Driffield in Oct-Dec 1942 (flying Wellingtons), You were right with No. 102. Sorry.

I have a photo of this ac from the other side with Sqn Ldr J E H Marshall OC C Flt and his crew in front of it-no date. If it is DY-G, JB848/G was lost in an accident 29 Mar 43, JB964/G lost 14 May 43, JB794/G lost in an accident 10 Aug 43,

Re: ID Halifax crew of 102 Squadron

Hello Chris!
Thanks indeed for a more positive identification of the aircraft ( probably one of the 3 G-George mentioned by you above ). I've already found some information on S/L Marshall. I do guess you have checked the 102 Squadron ORB for your major work on that Squadron. Would you have the names of his crew members? I will try to contact the 102 Squadron's Association and ask them some help too.
Thank you very much Chris. Wish you and yours a helluva Xmas and a very happy new year. I will be on holidays in two days and won't have access to internet for a while. Yours, very grateful indeed for your answer.

Re: ID Halifax crew of 102 Squadron

I am afraid that I do not have access any longer to the 102 Sqn F540 (I wrote the book so long ago!) and I doubt whether you would get anything from the 102 Sqn Association which is getting smaller by the month and the knowledge remaining is minimal
