I./JG 2 - 9. September 1944
Gentlemen,
on 9 September 1944 I./JG 2 encountered a formation of P-47s north of Frankfurt am Main; in the ensuing aerial combat the Gruppe claimed five Thunderbolts shot down - all five confirmed - but lost ten Fw 190s in return with seven pilots killed and one wounded. The combat lasted for over 30 minutes and reached from the area around Gissen to Koblenz and west of Wiesbaden. Can anybody give me some details concerning the allied side - which units were involved, what claims were made, what losses incurred ? Many thanks in advance and KR Jochen Prien
