claim Lt. Brandenberger 12/13 February 1944

Dear all,

In the claimlists of Tony Wood, you will find a claim of Lt. Brandenberger (III./NJG 1) in the evening of 12th February 1944: a Mosquito near Mönchen-Gladbach, the Abschusskommission judged this claim as VNE/ASM (non valid).

I tried to check some essential primary sources but...

1. I can't find a nightfighter pilot called Brandenberger,
2. I can't find this claim in the given source C 2025 N-1 file
3. I can't find a fitting claim in the RL 10/620 claimlist of the III./NJG 1 (nor III./NJG 2 etc.)

Any help is greatly appreciated ! Best regards, Marcel

Bogensberger is also written on the WASt Gräberkarteikarte.

I believe the cross is wrong, not unique…of you look at place of birth, only Bogensperger living there

After looking in the 1939 address book of Bamberg, I can confirm that a family "Bogensperger" lived at that time at the address which is on the Karteikarte. I do not understand how it can be that the name could be registered with "b".

Re: claim Lt. Brandenberger 12/13 February 1944

Hello guys,

Thank you for the new input, much appreciated ! It is now crisp and clear that Bogensberger should be Bogensperger. For me the case is not closed yet:

1. That his claim was rejected seems logically explain the fact that it was not recorded on the official Abschussliste of the III./NJG 1 (RL 10/620). But it is a pity that where the Tony Wood list gives C 2025 N-1 as the source, the info can't be found there. The reason to read the original C 20xx file is to rule out the little chance that Brandenberger is a misread interpretation of another name linked to the Me410 in Venlo.

2. Interestingly, Bogensperger is on a list (12 April 1944) of I./NJG 1 pilots. Now it becomes interesting whether he claimed the Mosquito when he still was with the III./NJG 1 (before being posted temporarily at the I./NJG 1 in April 1944), then returning to the III./NJG 1 where he fell in June 1944.

Well, thanks to your all, the hunt goes on ! Best regards, Marcel
