Personnel Loss over England - 1943?

Hi,
Could anyone confirm whether Obergefr. Alfons Hochholzer who was lost on 9th March 1943 was killed on a mission to England and lost over Portland Bill in Dornier Do 217 from 3/KG2 as stated in the Blitz 3 (page 233) or was he lost in a different theatre? Any information would be great
Many thanks
Rick

Re: Personnel Loss over England - 1943?

Hi, guys.

According to the loss record:

http://www.ahs.no/ref_db/lw_loss_pub...?lossid=116563

Seems that the pilot did an error and the subsequent crash killed the entire crew.

The location was Lübeck, and I tend to think this aircraft was on a transfer flight, at least it was not a Feindflug (operational flight).

Regards,
Andreas B

Re: Personnel Loss over England - 1943?

Looking in "Blitz 3" (assumed by me to be the book "The Blitz Then and Now Vol 3) and page 233 there is no loss mentioned on 9 March 1943.

Neither can I find any Hochholzer mentioned on said page.

However Alexander Steenbeck in his KG 26 book confirms Snautzer's details and says aircraft was He 111 H-6 WNr 4826.

It's online here: https://www.fold3.com/image/69336449...ons,hochholzer

It says he died in an accident.
