Shot down pilots over Greece

Hello,

I would appreciate any info concerning some Me 109 pilots shot down in northern Greece near Rupel pass on 6 April 1941.
a)Ofw Adolf Faltings,b) Obfhr Eckard. Both were killed.

Interesting would be the aircraft numbers/codes/signs or damage.

The JG 26 was stationed at Belica that time. One aircraft returned with 50%damage.Any info about this a/c?

Thank you in advance!

Re: Shot down pilots over Greece

According to :

P. 231-232
Hurricanes of no. 33 Squadron vs Bf109Es of 8/JG27 over the Rupel Pass on 6 April 1941.
33 Squadron claimed 5 without losses while 8/JG27 lost four aircraft and a fifth crash-landed.
Oberleutnant Arno Becker (StaKa) was killed in "Black 2".
Leutnant Klaus Faber baled out and became POW.
Ofw Gerhard Fromming was wounded and crash-landed his badly damaged "Black 8".
An unnamed pilot baled out of "Black 6" and returned on foot.
No info about the fifth casualty.

Hi Byron,

How are you my friend?
I have a problem with that loss! Took me time to get the net sites where I had found it...
Same plane is given in JG5 loss lists. on 30/6/42, Landing accident at Vaernes, 20%.

Cheers, Franck.

Re: Shot down pilots over Greece

Dear Aviator ,

From Prien's Book "Die Jgdfliegerbande der deutsche Luftwaffe , Teil 5" :

6/4/1941-Me-109 losses

Oblt. Heinz Deuschle , 6./JG 77 , Pancevo , 100%

Hptm. Herbert Ihlefeld , Stab I(J)/LG2 , 35 km south of Nisch , 100%

Obfhr. Heinz Eckhardt , 3.(J)/LG2 , Kumanovo , 100%

Obfw. Adolf Faltings , 4.(S)/LG2 , Belica-north , 100% , pilot dead

three losses for II.(S)/LG2 without pilot name ,
1) Plovdiv , 2) Belica-north , 3) Belica

Oblt. Arno Becker , 8./JG 27 , west of Gefyroudi (Greece) , 100%, pilot dead

Lt. Klaus Faber , 8./JG 27 , west of Gefyroudi (Greece) , 100%

Obfw. Gerhard Froemming , 8./JG 27 , west of Gefyroudi (Greece) , 100%

Hope this helps ,

Tasos

Re: Shot down pilots over Greece

Thank you all!

It seems that rather 5 109s came down shot down by Pattle(2),1 by Winsland, half each Winsland and Cottingham and the last by Wickham. The first 3 are Becker,Faber and Fromming.2 are missing.I thought that Eckard (not Eckhardt/probably other pilot) and Faltings could be the ones. But as you wrote, they belonged to LG2.In this air fight only JG27 109s were involved as far i know. But from some sources i read that 20/30 a/cs were in the air.Could it be possible that the LG2 was hunting together with JG27?
Have a look at http://www.jg27.de/chronik_maerz_41.html which confuses more....

Regards,

Aviator

Re: Shot down pilots over Greece

The usual daily returns, I think that first Wn given 2039 was a mistake the 2038 is very clear in returns
