Me262 ID needed.

Hi Gents,

From "Facebook" without any source.
Can someone tells me where this machine has been found? Any data available?
Thanks for your comments.

Regards, Franck.

Re: Me262 ID needed.

Might be WNr 111974, Weisse 8, at Innsbruck-Hötting.Part of JV 44 at this time it may have belonged to EJG 2 (yellow fuselage band).

Regards

Roland

Hi Roland,

The visible hakenkreuz style indicates that this was an aircraft from the later 500xxx werknummer series. I do agree with you that the location looks like Innsbruck-Hötting and that this was a machine from III.EJG 2. New photo to me!

Cheers,

David

Hi Gents,

Thank you very much for your comments.
Yes, looks like Hötting. I didn't know there was a "Weisse 8"...
Another photo of the same machine. Source unknown (Well, "internet"; maybe a Czeck forum ...)
Regards, Franck.

Re: Me262 ID needed.

Yes, David,
the camouflage on fuselage and tail point to a WNr 500xxx (= "Stauffen"-Regensburg-Obertraubling) jet. But I have a list containing the Me 262s found at Hötting and white 8 is connected with the abovementioned WNr.

Does that list include the other types found, such as the Ju 87s and Fw 190s?

Re: Me262 ID needed.

Unfortunately no. The jets seem to have been the main interest.

Re: Me262 ID needed.

Hi Roland,

Well, personally I would trust the photos more than the list.

I've compared the images of this machine against photos of known 1118xxx-11199x machines and this kite wears a demonstrably different camouflage and markings scheme. I believe it probable that the werknummer was transcribed correctly from a machine there but incorrectly matched to this aircraft. Indeed, the (in)famous 26 April 1945 München-Riem Me 262 listing has a number of obvious transcription errors. For example, the JV 44 machine WNr.111074. That werknummer does not fit into the sequence of the 111xxx-series. But 111704 certainly does. An Me 262 A-1a was found at Bad Aibling with this werknummer visible in a photo, and, its verbandkennzeichen "White 7".

I believe that WNR.111974 is a valid werknummer and better fits another aircraft found at Innsbruck-Hötting, but not this one.

Cheers,

David
